The book is dedicated to exploring innovation in articles reporting on the pairing of mixed methods research and grounded theory methods (MM-GT) in contemporary practice. It off-sets the idea that the first most important decision in framing a study as mixed methods research is the choice of one of the core designs or their variants, by highlighting what it means to systematically apply an inquiry logic as a theoretical framework to guide choices that are made about methods, including integration.

Four of the six chapters of this in progress book illustrate what it means to frame a MM-GT with a theoretical framework. With a contemporay set of exemplars of articles published in 2020 and after, it explorates four ways to theoretically ground a MM-GT study.
- To demonstrate fidelity to each of the methodologies (a methodological approach).
- To align with the assumptions of a paradigm, like the dialectical perspective or one associated with social justice (a paradigmatic approach).
- To pair with a theoretical framework from the literature (an approach that begins with a theoretical framework for the literature).
- To pair with a design orientation (an approach that prioritizes choice of design).

This new book adds to my previous book, Advancing Grounded Theory with Mixed Methods Research (2021), in important ways. The new book concentrates on examples published after 2020, including those who are the first to specifically identify their approach as mixed methods grounded theory MM-GT.
